Al menos 23 personas han muerto y 45 han resultado heridas en un ataque con un camión bomba perpetrado por el grupo yihadista Al Shabab esta noche en Mogadiscio, informó hoy a Efe la Policía somalí. El comandante de policía Abshir Isak señaló que el ataque tenía como objetivo el hotel Maka Almukrama, situado en la céntrica y concurrida calle del mismo nombre en la capital somalí, donde continúan hoy las operaciones de rescate de víctimas.

Según la misma fuente, la explosión ocurrió ante la puerta del hotel -frecuentado por funcionarios del Gobierno somalí- y cinco atacantes intentaron acceder al establecimiento, pero no pudieron porque quedó parcialmente destruido y se ocultaron en un edificio aledaño. Tras la explosión, que pudo escucharse a varios kilómetros de la zona y causó numerosos daños materiales en tiendas y vehículos aparcados en la calle, se escucharon ráfagas de disparos, informaron medios locales.

Efectivos de las fuerzas de seguridad se desplazaron al lugar del ataque y lanzaron una operación que duró hasta primera hora de esta mañana sin que, de momento, hayan trascendido sus resultados. Se teme que aumente el número de víctimas a la espera de que se divulguen nuevas cifras por parte de los hospitales y el Gobierno. El grupo yihadista Al Shabab se atribuyó el ataque, indicaron medios locales.

Todo apunta a que puede tratarse del peor atentado cometido por Al Shabab en Mogadiscio desde la masacre del 14 de octubre de 2017, cuando otro ataque con camión bomba causó al menos 512 muertos en el peor acto terrorista de la historia de Somalia. La organización terrorista, que se afilió en 2012 a la red internacional Al Qaeda, controla parte del territorio en el centro y el sur del país y aspira a instaurar en Somalia un estado islámico de corte wahabí.

Somalia vive en un estado de guerra y caos desde 1991, cuando fue derrocado el dictador Mohamed Siad Barre, lo que dejó al país sin un gobierno efectivo y en manos de milicias radicales islámicas, señores de la guerra y bandas de delincuentes armados.

Esa es la recompensa que el Gobierno de Estados Unidos dará a quien ofrezca información que posibilite la detención de Hamza bin Laden, uno de los hijos del difunto líder de Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden. “Hoy anunciamos que se dará una recompensa de un millón de dólares a quién ofrezca información que conduzca a la identificación o localización -en cualquier país- de un líder clave de Al Qaeda: Hamza bin Laden”, anunció el secretario adjunto para Seguridad Diplomática de EE.UU., Michael Evanoff, en una rueda de prensa.

Evanoff aseguró que Osama bin Laden, fallecido en mayo de 2011, pasó años preparando a Hamza para asumir el liderazgo de la organización criminal, que ostenta en la actualidad el egipcio Ayman al Zawahiri, según se puede apreciar en una serie de cartas que fueron halladas en el complejo pakistaní de Abbottabad, donde el padre murió en una operación de las fuerzas especiales de EE.UU.

A pesar de que se desconoce dónde se encuentra escondido Hamza, Evanoff señaló que todo apunta a que está en algún lugar de la frontera entre Afganistán y Pakistán, posiblemente esperando una oportunidad para cruzar a Irán. El coordinador de la estrategia antiterrorista del Departamento de Estado, Nathan A.
